The network behind all of it is invisible. Until it is not. World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2026 was observed under the ITU’s theme: Digital lifelines — Strengthening resilience in a connected world. It is a theme that goes beyond infrastructure. It is about the ordinary moments that depend on systems most people will never see, maintained by institutions most people will never think about. COMRiC is one of those institutions.
Our work in telecoms risk and compliance exists precisely to protect the reliability and integrity of the network that South Africans depend on without thinking. Because the moment they have to think about it — the moment a SIM swap attack locks someone out of their banking, or a fraudulent RICA registration enables crime through an innocent subscriber’s number — the damage is already done.
